Wildfade is a neologism and an original artistic concept, entirely created and developed by the artist Artur Català to define the threshold where life and disappearance meet.
It is a pictorial exploration of fragility; a personal vision born from the need to document the increasingly critical relationship between human beings and nature.
In his practice, Català does not depict endangered or vulnerable wildlife as aesthetic figures; instead, he constructs visual ecosystems where these species attempt to resist the pressure of a world changing too quickly. Each piece becomes a dialogue between realism and abstraction, where every stroke, every crack, and every remaining trace of light speaks of the urgency to protect what humanity is on the verge of losing.

THE SYMBOLS OF THE WILDFADE LANGUAGE
INTERVENTION: HUMAN ACTION
The abstract forms and textures created through pouring represent human intervention in nature. In Català’s work, these marks are not ornamental: they invade the animal’s space, surround it, pressure it, and, in many cases, fragment or visually disintegrate it. Just as human actions transform ecosystems and disrupt wildlife, these forms gradually occupy their space until survival itself becomes an act of resistance.
The use of chance within fluid painting makes every invasion upon the canvas unique, reflecting the irreversible impact of human actions on the planet.

DISINTEGRATION: THE MOMENT OF FADING
The animal fragments or dissolves into particles and splashes. This disintegration symbolizes the progressive loss of species; the feeling that wildlife is slowly fading before our eyes, becoming a pictorial memory captured by the artist.

CRACKS: TECTONIC FRAGILITY
Cracks within Català’s visual language are the map of tension. They represent the rupture of balance and the fragility of a surface that feels broken from within. They are the visible matter of a silent crisis: the constant pressure species endure in a world that has become hostile.

GOLD: THE SACREDNESS OF LIFE
The use of gold is not driven by an aesthetic pursuit of material wealth, but by a sense of sacredness. For the artist, gold symbolizes that the planet’s greatest treasure is not the resources we extract from it, but the life that inhabits it. It is a call to recognize the immeasurable value of biodiversity.

LIGHT: THE PULSE OF RESILIENCE
From within the animals, a profound light emerges. This light represents vital energy and the pulse of resilience that still insists on beating. In the worldview of Wildfade, animals are the light of the planet: when a species fades away, the world becomes a little darker.

THE BRUSHSTROKE: THE ANATOMY OF GESTURE
The animals are constructed through visible and expressive brushstrokes, preserving the physical presence of paint within the artwork at all times. Up close, the material, gesture, and texture become evident. Forms fragment into strokes, layers, and movement.
Yet from a distance, all of these brushstrokes merge together to build the gaze and presence of the animal. This contrast between abstraction and realism is an essential part of Wildfade’s visual language.

FUSION: THE INVISIBLE BORDER
Abstract forms begin to integrate directly into the animal itself. They no longer merely surround or pressure it from the outside: they emerge from within, pass through it, or fuse with it to the point of becoming indistinguishable.
This process symbolizes how human intervention has ceased to be an external force and has instead become part of the ecosystems and the animals that inhabit them. Water pollution, habitat destruction, and waste entering the food chain silently transform wildlife from within.
The boundary between the living being and intervention gradually disappears, turning them into a single visual matter.

THE PROCESS: FROM CHANCE TO THE GAZE
Each of Català’s works begins in chaos. Through fluid techniques, the artist allows the movement of paint to generate organic and unpredictable textures across the surface. From this abstract environment, the animal emerges through layers of glazing and realistic details that create depth and movement.
The process culminates in the gaze. It is the center of the artwork and the ultimate emotional connection point: the direct bond where the animal and the viewer meet, forcing us not to look away from what is truly essential.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
The conceptual proposal behind Wildfade has been validated by elite international juries in the fields of art and conservation. Particularly noteworthy is the recognition of Artur Català as a finalist in the The Living as Symbol category at the Golden Turtle Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious events dedicated to wildlife. This achievement reinforces his ability to connect artistic emotion with global environmental awareness.

*These elements and symbols are not applied systematically throughout the entire body of work. Each piece within the Wildfade series is an individualized response to the reality of the species represented: the artist deliberately selects and combines these resources, adapting the visual language to what each animal and each story need to convey in that precise moment.
